Colin is an outstanding mathematician, and I have benefited many times from his insights when I've needed a second opinion on a mathematical problem or idea. He is also an exceptional proof-reader of mathematical texts, not only in identifying errors that others might have missed, but also in suggesting improvements and enhancements. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
There's a delicate balance to strike in mathematical writing: you want to make it accessible and approachable, but you also want it to be correct.
That's where I come in.
I've worked on books by Alex Bellos, Rob Eastaway and Matt Parker, and I'm part of the puzzle-checking team for New Scientist.
I mainly check for errors, clarity and tone; my goal is to make sure that authors have written what they meant to write, and that it comes across in the way they meant it. I also try to anticipate what that one, pedantic reader might object to and discuss the potential problem a bit more sympathetically.
It's hard enough to get people to read maths. I make maths easier to read.
